'Touch of the freak' about James Cummings winner

James Cummings believes he will be handing over a "really promising customer" to the new trainer of the Gooree Park horses in the coming months.

Launch Code scored a comfortable victory in a small maiden field at Warwick Farm on Wednesday but Cummings has a huge opinion of the Smart Missile gelding.

"He's probably got more ability in one hoof than most horses in general," Cummings said.

"There's a touch of the freak about him and hopefully he can just keep getting better on that.

"He's a really good example of the tough sort of horses that can be bred off Gooree. I'm sure he's the sort of horse that will just keep getting better and he will be lovely four-year-old next season."

It is still unknown who will train the gelding once Cummings takes up his role at Godolphin although he believes that 'they've got a horse with a lot of untapped potential'.

The three-year-old was having his first start as a gelding but put on a performance in the mounting yard, sweating up before over-racing in the run.

"I dare say he's done that doing a lot wrong today in a small field but he's got away with it on class and I think they are going to have a lot of fun with him in the next few months," Cummings said.

Glyn Schofield also highlighted the gelding's apparent quality.

"He's come back now and had just one soft trial so to win a race after his performance in the enclosure beforehand was good. I was a little bit concerned he might bring himself unstuck but he's got a lot of depth to him," Schofield said.

"Saturday grade is will within his grasp and I wouldn't think stakes company is too far away either."

Launch Code ($1.80 fav) finished a length ahead of Chris Waller's Tivoli Street ($5.50) while perennial placegetter Star Of Monsoon ($2.80) finished a head further back in third.
