Co-trainer James Cummings gives us an update on what’s been happening at the stables this week and takes us through this weekend’s runners.

EUROZONE READY FOR GROUP ONE GLORY [27/02/2014]
Midweek races saw us at Royal Randwick where we had runners on the Kensington track. Cast In Stone ran a gutsy race but despite her best efforts she ended up wide, which cost her to work harder than the rest and as a result she fatigued. She finished third but was only beaten 2 lengths, Hugh Bowman commented that she ran very well and he felt he could have been more patient. Cast In Stone has pulled up well and we are looking for her next race venture.

CUMMINGS COLT IN THE ZONE [23/02/2014]
The camp was pleased with the way the weekend unfolded and we are confident a week out from the Group 1 Australian Guineas that we have pulled the right rein. EUROZONE rested peacefully in his box as the action unfolded at Caulfield yesterday, and seeing him wander off the track at Flemington on Saturday morning had me convinced he was in a really positive frame of mind heading to the Group 1 mile. G Boss was impressed with his level of fitness on Friday night throughout his exhibition gallop at Moonee Valley and the horse appeared to lap up the circuit.

HOPING FOR LUCK UNDER THE LIGHTS! [21/02/2014]
Over the weekend Leilani Lodge was able to produce some very good results at both Kembla Grange and Wyong.

ON THE RIGHT PATH WITH BROOK ROAD [14/02/2014]
Last Wednesday we had Brook Road racing on the Kensington track. This God’s Own filly repeated her last start success by storming home to win by an impressive 1.8 lengths.

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR EUROZONE [10/02/2014]
The start of February has proved to be a very successful one, with many winners and placings from both Sydney and Melbourne training facilities.

EXPOSITION ON IMPROVING THE AUSTRALASIAN STAYING BENCH [29/01/2014]
If I have heard it once, I have heard it a thousand times: “60 years ago when I started out, you could count on one hand how many 5 furlong races were run on the Eastern Seaboard”.  That provocative statement comes straight from my Grandfather JB Cummings, who suggested I help him in one of his last efforts to instigate change in our local industry.

RIP DR. PERCY SYKES [13/01/2014]
It is with great sadness that the Cummings family learned of the passing of Australia’s most accomplished veterinarian, Dr. Percy Sykes, who died peacefully in his sleep this evening, Monday the 13th of January, 2014.

NEW YEAR, NEW POSSIBILITIES [04/01/2014]
New Year’s Eve brought us to Gosford where we had the striking Wonderful World colt Eager engaged to win. He ran a tremendous race and was only just beaten on the line by a nose after jockey Christian Reith was forced to ride him only hands-and-heels for the final furlong.

The Christmas weeks have brought plenty of cheer for the Cummings & Cummings camp with much success enjoyed by owners and staff!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS SOME BLACK TYPE! [20/12/2013]
Saturday proved to be very successful with Cummings & Cummings achieving an emphatic winner at Flemington.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR THE PEAK [13/12/2013]
Last week proved to be very successful for the Cummings team. Both fillies at Mooney Valley performed very well, with Blazing Dragon running a bold 2ndplacing over the 2040m trip. Duet had a fantastic first up run by finishing 1st place over the 1200m distance.

HOPING TO REIGN AT RANDWICK [06/12/2013]
Last weekend we had a relatively busy time with runners in both states. The Peak ran a tremendous race finishing 2nd at Caulfield, having just got beaten by a neck.

MEDIA RELEASE [04/12/2013]
In response to the story published in today’s The Australian Newspaper, I wish to make it clear that this issue is a family matter that can be resolved.

MEGATHINK ADDS TO SUCCESS AT CANTERBURY 28TH NOVEMBER 2013 [28/11/2013]
Megathink finished off our racing week with a nice win when he stuck his nose out and pipped Pin ‘Em Down at the line at the Canterbury meeting yesterday. This lightly raced five year old has been quite consistent for the stable and his sire Pendragon, having only eleven starts he has won twice, has had three seconds and three third placings.

SUN SHINING MAKES FOR A VICTORIOUS WEEKEND 21ST NOVEMBER 2013 [21/11/2013]
The Melbourne Spring Carnival is now behind us and we can focus on our runners this week which will hopefully have some drier track conditions. The torrential rain last week led to a number of horses being scratched and the postponement of the Randwick trials. These trials were held this morning (Thursday 21st) and our runners that missed out on a run have been reassigned for a start this week.

CELEBRATING PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE 14TH NOVEMBER 2013 [14/11/2013]
As the “Cups King” celebrates his birthday today we can reflect back on many celebrations had by the stable over the years. More recently Precedence has given us a couple more reasons to celebrate, he has had an outstanding campaign so far with out of four starts had two Stakes wins and a second in the Benalla Cup. He is in top from and will be backing up this Saturday in the Group 2 Zipping Classic at Caulfield, again partnered by Craig Williams. Precedence has accumulated many fans over the years and the stable could not be happier with his performance throughout this preparation.

TWO IN A ROW FOR PRECEDENCE 10TH NOVEMBER 2013 (ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS) [10/11/2013]
Only just missing out on a run in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) having taken his place in the big race the previous three years, durable campaigner Precedence (Zabeel) made up for that disappointment with a determined victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 3, 2600m) at Flemington yesterday.

SETTING A PRECEDENCE AT FLEMINGTON 6TH NOVEMBER 2013 [06/11/2013]
Another successful week has gone by for the stable with Rosscarbery running a cracker of a race last Thursday to win at Gosford and Itamay won her maiden at Kembla Grange under the guidance of apprentice Hannah Martin.

MELBOURNE CUP WEEK 31ST OCTOBER 2013 [31/10/2013]
The stable had a cracker of a weekend last week with Commission coming back to top form at Canterbury on Friday night and Precedence coming one step closer to a start in the Melbourne Cup after winning the Group 3 Drake International Cup. Precedence loves the Moonee Valley track and looked like the winner before turning into the straight. He is now in 29th position on a list of what will be 24 starters in the race that stops a nation, he is not in the Melbourne Cup field yet but we will know more as we get closer to the big day. Should he not get a run in the Cup Precedence will aim for the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington on Saturday 9th November.

CUP PENALTY FOR PRECEDENCE 29TH OCTOBER 2013 [29/10/2013]
Saturday’s impressive Gr2 Drake International Cup winner Precedence (Zabeel-Kowtow, by Shadeed) has received a 1kg penalty for the Melbourne Cup, reports abc.net.au. The penalty moves the 8YO son of Zabeel to 29th in the order of entry for the Cup. Precedence has been nominated for the Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) & Gr3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on Saturday, with the winner of both races awarded automatic entry into the Cup. Should Precedence make the field, he will become master trainer Bart Cummings’ 88th Melbourne Cup runner and should he prove victorious, his 13th winner of the great race. Article courtesy of Breeding & Racing Website

FRIDAY NIGHTS ARE GOLD 24TH OCTOBER 2013 [24/10/2013]
A promising run from Blazing Dragon yesterday at Randwick finished off a relatively quiet week at the stable. As the Melbourne Cup week is looming we can now look forward to some favourable runners over this weekend. With our runners and racing in mind the smell of smoke in the air reminds us that with this hot and windy weather comes the Australian bushfires. It reminds us how lucky we are to live coastally and as those fires burn around NSW our thoughts are with those residents and hope for their safety and prompt return back to their homes.

BART’S KINGDOM BY ANDREW SPEEDY [17/10/2013]
It was a great privilege to recently be granted an interview with Mr Cummings or as he asked to be called after this excited and nervous visitor greeted him on arrival as ‘Sir’, “just Bart will do”. Mr and Mrs Cummings have now left the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the city of Sydney to permanently reside at what was once their regular ‘weekender’– and one knows they have made the perfect move.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM 17TH OCTOBER 2013 [17/10/2013]
It was great to see the chestnut gelding Goldstone coming back to his good form last Saturday at Randwick to etch out Shelford by half a neck and beat stablemate Maximilian into third position. Goldstone looked terrific in the paddock and his win was an added delight to his owners who were there on the day. It was a close call for Reunite who missed out on a win by a thin margin also at Randwick but it is a positive defeat with Reunite showing us he is in good form and will be back to stamp his authority. At Kembla Grange Ailuros had a great start to her campaign even though she was narrowly beaten into second position. She will greatly improve from this run and the stable looks forward to seeing her gallop over more ground.

ALIYANA RACES IN GROUP COMPANY 10TH OCTOBER 2013 [10/10/2013]
The stable was very pleased with its runners last week; Saintly Lad put in a stellar performance in his first Stakes in the Listed Dulcify Quality, finishing fourth and only beaten 2.3 lengths from the winner Rock Hero and in Melbourne Precedence showed his good form finishing second in the 2046m Benella Cup.

SUPER SATURDAY HAS A SAINTLY PRESENCE 3RD OCTOBER 2013 [03/10/2013]
The stable has come to the end of a thrilling week which started with the nice filly Forgiveness breaking her maiden with ease at Hawkesbury last Thursday, Eurozone was the highlight of the week when he stepped out and won the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes on Saturday and then to top it off the grey mare Aliyana came back to form and won on Sunday at Warwick Farm. We can now look forward to another week of racing and with some winning prospects gearing up for hopefully a little bit more success.

STAN FOX STAKES WEEKEND 26TH SEPTEMBER 2013 [26/09/2013]
Bart and James will be having their first outing together as partners in training at the Australian Racehorse Of The Year 2013 awards night hosted by Sky Racing World, in Melbourne on the 3rd October. Bart is delighted to have James at his side as he will be accepting an award acknowledging his 60 years as a trainer. Also up for an award on the night is Norzita who has been nominated for Champion Three Year Old Filly. Norzita is up against some tough competition but we are delighted she has been nominated and hope she can add this award to her trophy cabinet.

GAINING COMMISSION AT NEWCASTLE 19TH SEPTEMBER 2013 [19/09/2013]
It is great to have the Spring Carnival upon us, with there being much anticipation of the big races ahead. Should Eurozone please the stable next week, we can look forward to him running in the Stan Fox Stakes at Rosehill next Saturday (28 Sept). With next week in mind we also have much to focus on this week; we have the return of some familiar names to the races and also a fresh start for two that have already established themselves overseas.

GOLDEN WEEKEND 12TH SEPTEMBER 2013 [12/09/2013]
On this beautiful spring day we have two fillies heading off to Hawkesbury to kick start our weekend. Dragon Imprint will be resuming today in a 1100m Maiden Plate and will be ridden by Tommy Berry. Dragon Imprint had been very close to a win on a number of outings last preparation and after trialling nicely this time in we feel it is time for her to knock that maiden win off her list. Forgiveness will be having her first start in a 1400m Maiden Plate with Hugh Bowman on board. This filly has a big physical resemblance to her full sister Mimi Lebrock and so we will be watching with interest as her career unfolds.

NORZITA OUT FOR THE SPRING 5TH SEPT 2013 [05/09/2013]
Dual Group 1 winner Norzita will not be running this weekend in the Tramway Stakes. The stable Veterinarian Chris O’ Sullivan was not happy with her mid-morning after her final gallop.

EUROZONE MAKING AN IMPACT 29TH AUGUST 2013 [29/08/2013]
Although no win was in hand at Warwick Farm last Saturday, the stable was very pleased to see its’ runners finishing well and on an upward spiral in their campaign. The race to the finish between Reunite and Windswept was very exciting; Reunite unlucky to miss out by only a short head. Norzita kicked off her campaign with a slashing 3rd in the Show County, leaving no doubt she has returned in top form.

NORZITA TO SHOW SOME QUALITY AT WARWICK FARM [21/08/2013]
There was a great surprise in store for the owners of long shot winner Brook Road when she shot clear of the others and had a successful start to her career, at Kembla Grange last Saturday. A God’s Own filly bred by Bart at Princes Farm, Brook Road always showed potential and has been a very forward going horse as a youngster. The stable could see some early potential in this filly and it was nice to see her produce on debut.

FAVOURABLE START FOR STABLE [16/08/2013]
The stable had much to celebrate after having a very successful start to the new partnership of Bart and James. It was a double for the stable last weekend and for the sadly ill-fated Northern Meteor when Streaking Comet sleeked her way comfortably into a city win and Eurozone won his first stakes race with the Listed Rosebud. A big congratulations to the owners, there are good prospects ahead for these two youngsters.
